The location
Aboyne is situated in a wooded valley on the banks of the River Dee at the eastern fringes of The Highlands, where the Grampian Mountains merge into forested hills and rolling farmland - approximately midway between Aberdeen and Braemar. (Location Maps)

Aboyne Village Facilities
With 2 Hotels, 2 Restaurants, 2 Banks, Post Office, 3 Churches, Health Centre/Hospital, Pharmacy, Supermarket, Primary and Secondary schools, Aboyne has all basic services and is tending to expand rather than lose critical mass. However, it remains an attractive village featuring a village green and with most new building being hidden amongst natural birch and pine woodland.
Visitors are welcomed at all village facilities including:

• Bowling and Tennis Club plus Putting Green.
• Community Centre attached to the school, which includes a Swimming Pool, Squash and Badminton Courts, Table Tennis, Games Hall, Library, and a 300 seat Theatre.
• 18 hole Golf Course, evenly split between parkland and heathland, with wonderful views from the elevated parts of the course.

The principal events during the Aboyne calendar are:

• The Aboyne & Deeside Festival - July each year
• Art and Crafts Exhibition - 14th July to 10th August
• ActiveAboyne Outdoor Activities Festival - late July
• The Highland Games - 1st Saturday in August

In addition, there is a programme of evening entertainment arranged in the theatre throughout the year, including films, plays and concerts.
